Keyword Density

One of the most important criteria for getting a good ranking in the search engines is to include lots of keywords and phrases in the text on your pages.

Keywords are words logically related to the content of your document. These are the words or key phrases (a combination of keywords) people would type into a search engine when looking for a product or service like yours.

Remember this important advice
search engines love text!

Search engines are really just great big word munchers and generally speaking, the more words you have on your webpages, the better. When a search engine's spider visits your site, it can't see pictures or graphics. So, if it arrives at your website and all that is there is a few words and some beautiful pictures or a great big Flash animation, it will probably judge that your site is not worth listing and move along to the next one.

In fact, some search engines will simply not list webpages with less than 100 words of text on the page. Included in the text on your pages, there should be a liberal sprinkling of keywords or phrases that apply to your business.

Note: It's also just as important not to have too many keywords or the search engines may think you are trying to spam them (cheat the system)!

Just how many keywords and phrases is enough or too many, will vary from engine to engine and the search engines do not supply set guidelines on this, as such.

Remember, in spite of the desirability to use lots of keywords on your pages, the text should still make sense. If you think you can fool the search engines by repeating words or phrases, over and over, think again. You would be amazed at how sophisticated their software is at picking up these sorts of attempts.

What's more, if a search engine even thinks you are trying to spam them, they will not list you at all. This is a disaster, especially if it is a major search engine like Google.
